Scheduled
What: CloudCentral will be undertaking scheduled maintenance to the Canberra Government Cloud Zone to perform an upgrade of our storage cluster. The storage cluster will be updated to the latest version of the storage operating system. We will also be implementing high availability clustering of storage services across the multiple storage controllers that exist within the zone. Additionally we will be installing additional RAM within one storage controller to improve read caching.

Vendor support will be on call during the maintenance event to respond to any unexpected events that may occur.

Why: This maintenance is being undertaken to improve the resiliency, performance and serviceability of storage services within the Canberra Government Cloud Zone.

When: Thursday 2nd June 2016 10pm to 12am

Impact: Customer VM instances should not experience any outages during this maintenance event, however in order to apply operating system updates to the storage controllers the HA cluster manager will initiate a transition of storage services from one storage controller to another, then back again to update the next storage controller. The transition operation causes IO to pause for approximately 45 to 60 seconds while failover occurs. This is within the 'out of the box' storage IO timeout thresholds of most Windows and Linux server operating systems.

For more information on IO timeout settings that should be applied to Windows and Linux systems please review http://nex7.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/vm-disk-timeouts.html - we recommend a setting of at least 180 seconds for both Linux and Windows.
